You can find my writing online or in wrinkled magazines at your local dentist’s office—but all my favorite pieces are on Substack.
Sketches of Found Family chronicles my life as a single foster dad of teen boys. I write about late-night confessions, racism at Cracker Barrel, and the impossibility of getting a 16-year-old his driver’s permit. These pieces are heartfelt, tragic, funny, and honest. They’re for anyone whose life has expanded beyond the comfortable norms of the nuclear family.
Synthesizer collects all my other writings, which follow far-reaching curiosities. Here I ask questions like, “Why does Gen Z humor make me sad?” and “What would happen if I tried to get off Google?” These writings are my attempt to synthesize big ideas through a human lens.
Besides Substack, here are some things I’ve written for other publications…
- Ekstasis | “Going Blue Collar“
- And Sons | “Do Not Be Ashamed“
- ColoSpgs Mag | “Spirit of the Academy“
- And Sons | “Comfort Food“
